Salutations,
You are receiving this email because parts of the email you included were recognized as a phishing email attempt.
What is a phishing email?:
A phishing email is an email that is used to steal personal information about a person or their accounts, in this case the email is to gain information to a World of Warcraft account you may or may not have.
Why did I receive the phishing email?:
These emails are sent blindly by people that intend to compromise World of Warcraft accounts. Many times these emails reach people that no longer or have never had a World of Warcraft account.
How did they get my email?:
The emails they send these emails to are gained from unsecure email registries and by compromising the email accounts of real people and copying the contact list, along with many other ways that would take too long to mention in this email.
Can I prevent getting these again?:
In order to not receive emails from these phishing attempts you will need to create a spam filter within your email to send them to a separate folder or to the trash can. However if you do have an account with Blizzard Entertainment doing the above can also mark our legitimate emails as spam.
How do I tell the difference between a phishing email and a real one?:
A Blizzard employee will NEVER ask you for your password, secret question, or Authentication keys through email, request you to validate your account on a website, or demand that you change your email to a specified email address.
While all of our email addresses end in "@blizzard.com", there are ways to mask the sending email address, just like changing the return address on an envelope sent in the mail, so this will not always be a sure sign of a Blizzard email. Because of this many replies to these emails are sent to Blizzard Entertainment instead of the actual sender.
If you ever have questions or concerns about the legitimacy of any email that appears to be from Blizzard, please feel free to email wowaccountadmin@blizzard.com, or submit an in-game petition and we will gladly assist you in determining if any email is valid or not.
More information about these phishing emails can be found on our forums at (http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=965511383&sid=1)
I can't access my account, can you help?:
If you have an account with us you can do a few things to regain access. I personally suggest contacting our Billing department by calling 1-800-59-BLIZZARD (800-592-5499) between the hours of 8AM and 8PM Pacific Time, customers in Australia should call 1-800-041-378. With proper verification they can have you back into the game in a matter of minutes.
I am missing items and gold on my characters, can I get that restored?:
If you already have access to your account you can report the compromise and damages to our Game Master staff via In-Game Petition. Once the account has been reported as compromised the Game Master Staff will work to restore it as quickly and efficiently as possible. Please keep in mind the faster the account is reported the better chance of getting everything resorted is.
I hope that this information sufficiently addresses your concerns. Please feel free to contact me if you require further assistance. My email is AnthonyF.support@blizzard.com.
Thank you for your time & best regards,
