Darkfall is unlike any other MMORPG currently in existence.
Most of the gaming community shys away simply because the game has full-loot FFA PVP. The problem is that most people come from games that are trying to steal from WoW's market and many EQ-clones out there have a FFA PVP server so when the average gamer thinks of FFA PVP, they usually think of a themepark style FFA PVP server where you have to level and usually complete certain quests to unlock additional content. This results in gankers camping FFA PVP areas where they know that people will have to pass to level-up in the game. Also, most FFA PVP games have a much smaller world than this game so it is much easier for gankers to find people who are trying to PVE. Darkfall is different because the world is so much more open and players have the freedom to band together, create and maintain safe-zones, and bring justice to players that have wronged them. Gankers in FFA PVP games without full-loot can keep coming at you nonstop since there is nothing to lose.
What does Darkfall have to offer that other MMORPGs do not?
This game aims to be the most immersive MMORPG where you feel attached to your character more than other MMORPGs. When your character wins and fails in this game, you physically feel what your avatar is going through more than most other MMORPGs. This game tends to conjure real emotions in the players that other games do not. This can feel like getting hit in the stomach so hard that you may feel sick at times but because of this it also includes accomplishing something so epic that the high lasts for a lifetime and will not be experienced in the same way by any other player . .. ever! This type of accomplishment cannot be matched in most other MMORPGs because for the most part, you are following the same quest-tracker as other people when you accomplish things in other games. Whether you like this game or not, it is hard to deny the fact that this game will bring an adrenaline rush that other games can't.
You have one character per account, long-term progression, and no-instances or invisible walls so everything that you do will effect the world of Agon in the long-run. Your actions are remembered by other players more than most MMORPGs and people will get to know you much more than games where you spam something like, "30rogueLFG". You are a part of the history of Agon, whether you like it or not.
Darkfall has FPS (first person shooter) / twitch-based combat. You can dodge, use your environment as cover, have to aim before you activate most skills and spells, and because of this the sounds that you hear around you are very important and can mean life and death during most situations. You may be too afraid to go AFK in this game at times, not listen to music as you play, or eat and do anything distracting as you play. Darkfall will keep you at the edge of your seat longer the more that you play. So-called bunny-hopping is offered more in this game that any other FPS that I have ever played . .. you cannot replace this game with any other when it comes to how fun the physics engine can be. If you can see it, you can not only touch it, but you can get on top of it!
Superior Mob AI (artificial intelligence). The monsters in Darkfall are unlike any others. Aggro is not pulled by stepping within range, but instead the mobs come at you if they can see or hear you! They act like they really want to survive as much as you do and respond very much like a real person would. They will drink potions, heal eachother, dodge, use cover, call friends for back-up, etc. No other MMORPG currently has mobs that feel as realistic. Also, unlike most games, the mobs in Darkfall skill-up just like you do! You may even see them massing together to attack player cities and NPC cities from GM-controlled dynamic events! Sometimes mobs are taken over randomly by Darkfall developers to provide a more realistic feel to the game and to enhance your immersion.
Darkfall is for any type of player who wants to feel immersed in their game . .. whether you want to craft, PVE, or PVP; this game has something to offer that other games do not. There are challenges that other games do not offer and you will be brought to the edge of your seat as you are challenged. The PVE-inspired players will learn how to avoid PVP the more that they play and be able to interact with mobs in a way that simply cannot be done in other games. The crafter in Darkfall will learn how to haggle the market, hold a monopoly, maybe hire bodyguards, become a middle-man, and avoid those trying to scam. The PVP-inspired players will eventually learn how to take on those more developed characters or win while outnumbered from dueling often and cooperative team work by using player-skill.
Darkfall tests your player-skill much more than just the fast-paced combat. Almost anything that you are good at doing in real life will help you in this game. There is no easy-mode and you will always be challenged which may improve these skills in the real world. Haggling, politics, communication, team-coordination, stealth, military-tactics, aim, getting along with other, scamming, robbing, becoming a spy, leadership, etc. . .. Darkfall will challenge almost whatever player-skill you bring to the game.
